Potassium Iodate Tablets

Potassium Iodate is used for protection against radiation. Radiation can come from many sources including power plan disasters, a nuclear attack or other unanticipated events. You can be hundreds of miles downwind and be potentially exposed. This poisoning can be a threat to thousands or even millions of people in large population areas. The fact is that today's nuclear power plants have over 100 times more radioactive materials than an atomic bomb. One of the largest amounts of contamination is Radioactive Iodine 131. Documented evidence of thyroid cancer attributable to Chernobyl has been found as far as 300 miles from the accident site.

Minute amounts of Radioactive Iodine that areinhaled or ingested can be absorbed and held in the thyroid gland. The radioactive contamination accumulates over time to the point where the thyroid expirences abnormalities such as nodes, loss of thyroid function, or thyroid cancer. Taking Potassium Iodate (KiO₃) saturates a person's thyroid gland with stable ("good") iodine, to the point that Radioactive Iodine cannot be absorbed by the thyroid. With a saturated thyroid full of "good" Iodine, additional Radioactive Iodine that is later inhaled or ingested is quickly eliminated by the body. Potassium Iodate (KiO₃) is now being stockpiled by many government agencies.

Should I begin taking KiO₃?

No. There is no benefit to using a thyroid blocker now. Keep your supply for when there is a fallout.

When will the authorities tell us to start?

Authorizes will inform you when fallout is headed your way. Take a single dose of KiO₃ or Ki about 3 to 12 hours before, or up to 10 hours after exposure. The more you wait the less effective it will be. In a "nuclear event". In event you are down-wind, take KiO₃ or KI before the radioactive plume reaches you. If you don't start your single dose 3 to 12 hours before exposure, or up to 10 hours it is most likely too late to take a thyroid blocker unless the authorities can reach you with the proper dose during fallout conditions.

What is the usual recommended "daily dosage" in case of a nuclear disaster?

• Adults ( age 12 years and up) - 2 tablets - 3 to 14 days
• Children (age 3 years to 12 years) - 1 tablet - 3 days or longer*
• Infants (age 1 month to 3 years) - 1/2 tablet - 1 - 3 days*
• Babies (age newborn to 1 month) - 1/4 to 1/2 tablet - 1 -3 days*

*Medical authorities may recommend repeat or longer dosing.

*Under heavy plumed conditions 1/2 tablet single dose may be given to newborns. It is extremely important to remove young children from these conditions as quick as possible.

More than one event can occur as experienced at Chernobyl.

For young children or newborn babies, the 1/2 to 1/4 tablet may be crushed and mixed with milk, juice or water.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding you should normally not take more than two doses for a minor "reactor leak." Babies up to a month old should only receive one dose for a minor "reactor leak." However, this should be determined by authorities.

Should I not take a thyroid blocker if I am allergic to Iodine?

It is your choice. If you are allergic to Iodine it is likely true you will be allergic also to Radioactive Iodine (I-131).

Are there other conditions to be considered before taking KiO₃ (or any thyroid blocker)?

Is it a true radiation emergency? Do you experience allergic reactions to iodine? Do you have a skin disease? Do you suffer from inflammation of the blood vessels? Do you have an overactive thyroid and taking treatment medicines? Do you have kidney or adrenal gland problems? Are you suffering from heat induced dehydration? Are you take a diuretic? IF YES TO ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS, YOU SHOULD TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE TAKING KI OR KiO₃.

Although rare hypersensitivity reactions may occur with a rash, swollen salivary glands, headache, wheezing or coughing and upset stomach. If you have these or any other effects while taking Potassium Iodate, tell a doctor immediately.

My doctor says I have a Thyroid problem and tell me to avoid foods that contain Iodine. What should I do?

That is a tough question. Iodine can cause some serious problems in some Thyroid patients. Radioactive Iodine-131 is Iodine and can be dangerous or even deadly for babies and young children. Thyroid conditions where you avoid Iodine in food will be a problem with Radioactive Iodine-131. Discuss with your doctor to determine what you should do.

Is Ki any good?

Ki is a Thyroid Blocker and it works. There are distinct advantages to KiO₃, but Ki will work to block the Thyroid.

Which is safer, KiO₃ or Ki?

According to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) KiO₃ (our Thyroid Blocker) is safer to use. KiO₃ has a Health Risk of 1---slight. Ki, has a Health Risk of 2—moderate. However, compared to Radioactive Iodine, a Health Risk of 2 for Ki means nothing.

Which would be best for babies, children and adults, Ki or KiO₃?

KiO₃ is best because it is a simple dose and not bitter in the stomach for babies, pets and the ill. It is easier to keep down.

How long will Potassium Iodate last?

The manufacturer publishes the shelf-life as "Theoretically Unlimited". Meaning, 10 years or more if not exposed to excessive heat and sealed bottles are air tight.

Is there anything else that I should worry about?
